1 Corinthians 13:
v4 “love does not brag”
When I think of bragging, I think of a person who thinks that they are better than everyone else. I think of a person who wants others to see how much they have accomplished and to remind others what they have not achieved. I know that a bully is a person with very low self esteem, a person who is not confident of themselves, and so they feel that is they speak/live louder they will drown out all the feelings of inadequacy that they have.
I remember when I was young and my father would buy a new car. He would always take the sticker off of the window. I hated when he did that because when the other kids parents would get a new car they would drive around with the sticker on the window for everyone to see. Oh how I wanted to feel that experience smiling in the back seat as we drove by all of my friends looking at the new car sticker on the window. My father was an extremely successful business man, who knew who he was and was confident in his abilities. He simply didn’t need to experience what I needed to experience, he didn’t have the need to.
I have since learned what he knew back then, and I live like that to this day…I know who I am…what I am in Christ and bragging isn’t a need that I have. All this is motivated by love.
