Matthew 18:21-22
YOU WANT ME TO WHAT???????
21 Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus *said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
Forgiveness opens up the dimensions of God to us, it opens up possibilities that we wouldn’t otherwise have access to. The fighting and bickering with each other stops the flow. I read an article on CBN where This phenomenon has been examined by researcher David Kinnaman of the Barna group he says that young people use words like “over protective” “repressive” “shallow”. I listened to his reasons, and they are good ones, but I have a few of my own.
More and more frequently we hear from our younger patients that they want to see “the supernatural” they are interested in magic and fantasy books about these subjects. I ask myself the question “why”? I remember at 18 years old as a charter member of Dr Ed Dufresne’s church The Palos Verdes Faith Center seeing plenty of “supernatural” I saw more healing and miracles and works of power than I have ever seen to this date. During those days I saw The Word being walked out…proved to me by seeing it. And don’t tell me that we shouldn’t have to see healing and miracles and works of power to get excited about God, because our young people are going elsewhere to see it happen.
Seeing Dr Dufresne walking out God’s Word and proving it to me changed me to the core. I was not the same after those 9 months sitting under his teaching. I personally saw healing that I didn’t even see in Kathryn Khulmans meetings (yes I was there at melody land…and baptized there). How can a person be the same after seeing a cancer the size of a large man’s hand fall of the side of the face of a person standing just a few feet from them? Or seeing legs that are 10 or more inches shorter than the other leg INSTANTLY grow out to the same size? I not only craved seeing it, I craved doing it like I saw Dr Dufresne do, and I did and still do. I know places where young people are being taught how to walk in the Prophetic and operate in areas that the church should be walking in but for some reason are too timid. I crave to see them operating like that too. The Church has too much genuity to let hollywood movies about witchcraft or a person who can levitate a small table on a stage steal our young people away from us. Compared to what I experienced all those years ago…what is going on now days in Hollywood and on the streets is pitiful, and yet too many of our young people see it as a powerful thing. When Jesus told us to forgive 70×7 it was for more than just getting the “warm fuzzies” when someone asks for your forgiveness, he wants us to be set totally free! To realistically heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers and cast out demons on a day-to-day basis.
Personally…I have faith in the church (us) and I know that we WILL succeed!
My personal crazy prayer; Father God, I want to be the one who picks a heart attack victim up off the floor at a store and speak life back into them. I want to see people delivered from possession and oppression by my simply walking by them. (this happened to Peter in Acts and remember PETER was the one who asked Jesus how many times he had to forgive a person who sinned against him!) LOL I think he got it!
