TVHP: Bonding With Your Baby
Bonding with your child is very important. Even before they are born, we talk to them, read to them, and sing to them. We tell them how much we love them and how excited we are to meet them.
Bonding with your child doesn’t always happen the way you expect.
For me, bonding with my son at the beginning was a little more difficult than I expected. I was very sick throughout my whole pregnancy. So much that I actually had to stop working. Stress from being so sick made it very difficult to bond with him before he was born.
And, my delivery was very difficult as well. I had a c-section and was on so much medication that I was asleep when he was born and the entire day and night. I have no memory of seeing him until the next morning. When I saw him I felt like he was not really mine.
Not because I didn’t want him to be but because I do not remember seeing him when he was born. I have dealt with the guilt I carried from not feeling bonded with him right away. It did take me awhile before I really felt that he was mine.
I was worried that because of that, our bond would never be what I thought it would.
But I was wrong.
My son and I have a very strong bond. God has shown me that regardless what humans tell you he can cover any “mishap” you may feel you have caused.
Sometimes we focus so much on reading books about how to be the “perfect parent” or getting advice from others that we forget we have a heavenly Father who IS the perfect parent. I no longer let the world tell me how to parent, I go to my heavenly Father. He not only teaches me, but he forgives me.
