Cutting-A Physical Act in Response to Emotional Pain
You or someone you know may have struggled with cutting or self harm. This is an issue that is more prominent than you may be aware. Most of the time you do not hear about it because it is an issue that has been left in the dark for a very long time.
Not only that, but people who self harm are very secretive about doing it. They hide the cuts, burns, etc where no one will see. Such as their upper legs and groin.
Why does someone self harm?
Self harm is a physical act in response to emotional pain.
Self harm is about stopping emotional pain.
When someone is struggling with deep emotional pain, rejection, and things from their past that has damaged them, they use self harm as a way to cope.
To them, when they cut/harm themselves, its like a drug release. And that feeling becomes and addiction. They use that like someone uses drugs to stop their emotional pain.
I self harm…is there any hope that I can ever stop?
The answer is yes.
Dealing with the emotional pain and getting complete and total healing is how you can stop self harm.
Talking to a professional that can help guide you physically, emotionally, and especially spritiually is very important. Because with God, nothing is impossible.
The Holy Spirit was sent to us to help us. It is important that you learn to go to the Holy Spirit for comfort and help. Hebrews 2:18 says,
For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
You may be feeling completely alone. That there is no help for you and that there is no one who could fix your brokenness. But those are lies from Satan. Psalm 34:18 says(also see Psalm 18:2):
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
