What do people see when they look at me?
Overcoming embarrassment and fear of being seen in public is a journey that most overweight people dread. I realize that we can look at The Scriptures logically and agree with what they say, but actually seeing ourselves as God sees us is difficult. We realize that God loves sinners and that he forgives them, so ALL SIN is covered by Jesus Christ. Almost every overweight person that I work with blames themselves for their condition, so they seem to forget the reason that they reach for food. Lets look at some scripture that may help you.
1. We can’t play the “blame game” because it will stop our healing process. Let’s put the blame where it belongs.
Romans 8
1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
God will never condemn you, so if you choose…you can do the same thing and stop condemning yourself. I realize it’s a hard start, but starting out by faith by saying “I will not condemn myself for this weight problem, I am forgiven”
2 We have to learn to place the blame where it belongs…WE are not to blame for what is happening to us. I realize that you may have made some improper choices when it comes to what you eat and why, but Ephesians states that you are NOT to blame.
Ephesians 6:12
12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
It isn’t God that desires to ruin your self esteem, your self respect…satan whats to stop you from moving on. So Ephesians 6:12 teaches us where to place the blame…it goes to satan NOT to you.
