The Struggles of a Teenager Series
We have all been teenagers at one point in our lives. For some it was a little further down the road then for others. Teenagers today have some of the same struggles that the teenagers of the past have had. On the other hand they also have a lot of struggles that the teenagers of the past may not have gone through in the same way because of new technology.
Over the next few weeks we will be diving into some of the struggles teenagers go through and what parents can do to understand them and help them.
Its just a phase.
This is simply not true. Teenagers deal with the same problems on a daily basis that adults deal with. And usually on a more persistent basis. The difference between them and an adult is that the adult has a fully developed brain. An adult can think through a situation knowing the consequences and fully understanding them. A teenager runs more on impulse, or what feels good at the time, and consequences don’t seem as realistic to them. Struggles teenagers are going through ARE a big deal. As they grow into adults, those struggles that were never dealt with in the past will follow them through life. It could lead them through a more painful life. On the other hand, if they are able to have a steadfast environment where they feel safe to open up, they will be able to deal with some of the struggles early on.
What does temperament have to do with it?
One of the hurdles to overcome is understanding who God made your child to be. The temperament profile is the tool to help. Knowing your teens temperament will help you understand them and your teen knowing your temperament will help them understand you. This will help you build trust between you and them and will make YOU the safe place for them to open up.
One Wednesday we will be tackling the first struggle teens go through.
