Marriage counseling: communication perspectives
Yesterday we talked about finding your life’ passion. Learning what your expertise in life is (and everyone has expertise in one area or another), allows you to live the way God designed yo to live. Today I want to add to this by talking about communication in marriage. Actually one can incorporate this into daily life at the office or with your circle of friends. Communication with a mate usually takes a wrong turn when one or both partners do not feel that they are being “listened to”. I’m sure that you have heard from a mate…”you are not listening to me”! Almost always…the other mate is saying “you’re crazy”! I heard every word that you just said” But did you know that each of the 5 temperaments listens just a bit differently? A Sanguine will listen with zest and will get involved in the conversation, while a Supine will have a “poker face” so that you won’t know what they are thinking no matter how hard you try to figure them out.
Communication (or the lack thereof) is often the deciding factor in the amount of intimacy that flows through a marriage. Intimacy is very important in a relationship because it is a part of the “glue” that holds a couple together allowing them to desire to work together. Knowing Temperament allows mis-communication to be “cleared up” allowing intimacy to flow once again.
The list can go on, but the point is that your mate IS communication with you! You simply have to find out what Temperament language they are using. The Penewit Center can help!
