Forgiveness is Everything
We have all wronged and hurt other people in our lives.
And we have also been wronged by people we care about.
You may have failed to apologized to someone you have hurt. I know that there have been times that I have not asked for forgiveness.
I also know that there have been times that I have not forgiven someone for things they have done to me.
Asking for forgiveness is more than just asking the person we hurt for forgiveness.
Until the last few years of my life I really did not understand completely what forgiveness was. I thought I did. But I have come to a new understanding of what it means to forgive and be forgiven. Here are some things that I have learned about forgiveness.
First, is that not only do I need to ask the person I hurt for forgiveness, but I also need to repent to God for what I have done. Yes, praying the sinners prayer does mean I am forgiven, but it is still important that I asked God to forgive me.
For example, you do not go to your friend and tell them, “Sorry for what I have done. By the way this sorry includes anything else that I will ever do to you.” You still need to repent for the things you do when they happen. I think we all forget that when we repent to God he will give us a kind of forgiveness a human cannot give us. Even if that person has chosen not to forgive you, God will always forgive you. And he can give you a peace no one else can.
Next time I will talk about the other very important points about forgiveness. If you are struggling with forgiveness or understanding how to forgive contact us, we can help.
