Most people have taken up habits that are not good for them. For some, that might mean smoking, overeating, or swearing. Some bad habits might not mean it is necessarily hurting your body but bad habits do have a sense of controlling you.
For example: You may be a nail biter. Biting your nails does not hurt your body but the need to bite your nails in stressful situations controls you. If you are not biting your nails you may feel more stress.

Quitting a bad habit can be hard and stressful. Most bad habits come about because of the need of a coping skill. Understanding that is the first step.
Some bad habits will be harder to stop because some, like smoking, have a physical effect on the body. Learning a new coping skill would be helpful when trying to stop smoking.
I overeat and food is something I have to have around. How do I stop?
Overeating is a very common bad habit. Many people struggle with emotional eating. Overeating does not happen because someone was really hungry and ate too much. It happens because there is a underling emotional problem that eating comforts in the moment. But after overeating, there is an immense amount of guilt that follows.
What does temperament have to do with bad habits?
All the temperaments have weakness and some of them struggle with low self-worth and depression. These are emotional issues that could trigger bad habits as a way of dealing with the emotional issue. Knowing your temperament and dealing with the stress, rejection, and pains in life can help you overcome a bad habit.
