Am I Failing?
If you are a parents then you have most likely said this to yourself more than once. Maybe even daily. As a parent it is a feeling that is hard to break free from.
There may be days that you feel like everything that could go wrong has gone wrong and it could not possibly get better.
What do I do when I feel this way?
The number one resource you have is the Holy Spirit. There are times when you may feel like you are completely alone and you don’t think you can take one more thing. But there is strength in the Holy Spirit.
Remember that it is the devil lying to you telling you that you are failing. He wants you to believe that you are not a good parent. But he is a liar.
I feel like I cannot get through to my child/children…
You may feel like you ask your kids to do something over and over again and they just don’t seem to be listening to you. Or when you discipline them they do not seem to respond like they really understand why they are being disciplined.
Knowing your child’s temperament can help in how you instruct, discipline, and simply talk to your child. It may not be that your child is purposely disobeying you, they may not understand the way you directed them. And, when you discipline them, they may feel rejected and not understand that you are trying to instruct them on how to behave.
For example:
Depending on your child’s temperament, sending them to their room alone as punishment could make them feel extremely isolated and rejected. They may seem like they are not responding the way they should because for them that was isolation not punishment. Some of the temperaments have a need to be around people. And, when they are not it can stress them out. So, for the child, it actually created a lot of stress, maybe to the point they could not calm down.
